Facebook Video Chat?

Last week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg tipped off Seattle press that the company would be launching an “awesome” new product next week that has been built by Facebook’s Seattle team.

The press invitations to that event went out saying nothing more than “Please join us for an event at Facebook” on July 6.

There is plenty of speculation out there from an iPad app through to a Facebook Browser?  Then according to the rumours that an inside source has let slip that Facebook will lauch a new video chat product, powered by Skype, that works in browser.

I guess time will tell and we’ll all know in a few days.

Facebook Will Launch In-Browser Video Chat Next Week In Partnership With Skype

One in Six Online UK Retail Visits Ends in a Purchase

According to Nielsen, a global measurement and information service, 1 in 6 UK Retail Visits ends in an online purchase.

However, the unexpected bit for me was one of the reasons why: 29% of people shop online because they then don’t have to deal with the sales staff:

E-commerce in the U.K. is booming. More than eight out of 10 of the active online population – 31.6 million people – visited at least one of the U.K.’s top 200 e-commerce sites in August 2010, according to Nielsen’s latest E-commerce Landscape Report.

What’s more, 16 percent of shopping visits ended in a purchase, with 89 million transactions resulting from the month’s 546 million shopping visits.

…… snip

Finally, looking at attitudes, the main reason for shopping online was ‘cheaper prices,’, given by 57 percent of respondents, and the ‘ability to shop at any time’ (32%), but an uncompromising 29 percent said ‘not having to deal with sales staff’ was one of their three biggest motivators.

Video, audio and backdrop quality

In the world of internet marketing, video marketing is becoming the most popular method of promotion because it has great success with targeted traffic.

More and more people are now doing their own thing with Flipcams and this can be a very good way to promote websites on the Internet and if used correctly will bring traffic. However close attention should be paid to quality of the videos because they do reflect the quality of the service and the products.

If you want to do your own thing then make sure that when the videos are shot that lighting is considered, the background should be appropriate and the room should be accoustically neutral.

Will it blend

I've just come across another interactive YouTube video (following on from Shoot That Bear). In this one, Corey Vidal gets more and more tipsy on a combination of vodka, jalapenos, raw eggs, potatoes, fruit and other random ingredients.

Do you want to make your online powerpoint more engaging using video?

More and more videos are appearing on YouTube which have been created with a tool called Camtasia.

Camtasia is an advanced screen capture tool which easily enables people to effectively video whatever is happening on their computer and a record them talking about it. Often this is used to record either power point presentations or demonstrate software packages. However it’s not always very engaging.

With the magic of Green Screen, it is possible to actually put a person on the screen with the captured screen shots. This has the benefits of instantly adding personality to the video. People are more likely to engage with the person and take action from the video.

This video on Branding the Shopping Genie really takes advantage of mixing a presenter and a powerpoint presentation.
